Teaching Assistantships

Most graduate students support themselves during their graduate careers by serving as graduate student teaching assistants (GTAs), which enables them to gain valuable experience by teaching in the department's undergraduate language program. The GTA stipend is awarded in addition to tuition remission.

Most graduate students teach during the summer semester for additional stipends.

In a joint effort with UC's Institute for Global Affairs, this department teaches an intensive summer language program for students enrolled in the university's professional colleges (predominantly engineering and business students) to prepare them for co-op experience in Germany. Each year two graduate students receive funding to teach in this intensive summer language training program.
