Videos of Vertebrate Movement & Animal Behavior

In the table below, click on the format of video file of that you wish to download. .gif = animated gif, .avi = MS video for windows, .mov = quicktime (often best for MAC) .mpg = mpeg has by far the smallest file size but it often requires a plug-in to be played in many browsers . More recent videos may be in either the .wmv or .f4v formats, and they may be quite large.

Note most files are quite large (>1MB) and require considerable time to download. Many browsers can play animated gif files with a minimum of fuss. Clicking or double-clicking on the image may be required to start and stop the animation. The animation playback speeds are highly dependent on the software and hardware that you are using. For example, I am aware that some of the files only advance one image every 5 seconds or so. Alternatively, you can download one of the files from my web site and then use the windows multimedia player or quick time to view the video independent of your web browser.

Many images were obtained with high-speed video cameras with imaging rates of 200- 500 per second. Hence, the video clips will normally appear to be much slower than the actual speeds. Species are arranged alphabetically by their scientific names. Additional information for each video clip can be obtained by clicking on the read hyperlink in the same row as the video of interest.

This site will be under construction for quite a while as I continue to build up the library of video clips, so come back for visits at regular intervals.
