William C. Boyce Award for Outstanding Teacher

The University of Cincinnati Department of English is pleased to honor excellent teaching through the student-nominated William C. Boyce Teaching Award. The award commemorates the late Professor Boyce, who was a member of the Department from the 1920s through the 1960s. Boyce was recognized by his students, colleagues, and the university for his outstanding classroom teaching.

As former students ourselves, teachers in the English department understand very well what it’s like to be inspired by a great teacher–many of us can attribute our career paths to just such a teacher (or two)! This is why we encourage you, our students, to nominate a teacher who has made a difference to you in some way. Who created a vibrant, memorable, and exciting learning environment? Who challenged you to think, read, and write in new ways? Who showed real care for your work and success, giving you renewed confidence in your abilities? All faculty and graduate instructors in the department are eligible for this award.

In many ways, students are the best authorities on teaching excellence. This is your chance to make your voice heard and to help honor your instructor for his or her good work in the classroom. All nominations are an honor and can be submitted at any time during the academic year. The winning faculty will be recognized at the annual English Department Awards Ceremony in the spring.
