Welcome
Welcome to the website for the Division of Statistics and Data Science in the Department of Mathematical Sciences.
Statistics is the science of collecting and analyzing data and generating useful information in inference, prediction, and making decisions under uncertainty. Thanks to the explosive growth in data availability, statistics now plays a crucial role in almost all research areas. Statistics provides companies and governments with various quantitative tools to extract useful information from complex data and helps them make well-informed and sound decisions.
The Division of Statistics and Data Science aims to provide a solid and well-rounded education on modern statistics and data science. The faculty in the division are engaged in cutting-edge research in statistical methods and interdisciplinary research; and are actively involved in transferring their expertise to students through teaching and advising.
For undergraduate students, the division offers a Bachelor of Science (BS) in Statistics and a minor in Statistics starting Fall 2022. (BA/BS in Math - Statistics and Actuarial Sciences track is expected to be phased-out. Current students in the track can find the program description here).
We have three well-established and successful graduate programs in statistics: a Graduate Certificate in Statistical Science, a MS in Statistics, and a PhD in Statistics.
Our alumni are spread across the US with successful employment in industries and academia. The city of Cincinnati is rich with numerous opportunities for statisticians, and our students greatly benefit from this environment by taking internships and full-time employment.
