Initiatives

The Cincinnati Ethics Center, under the direction of Philosopher Andrew Cullison, promotes community engagement, education, and research on important ethical challenges both locally and globally. The Ethics Center coordinates a regional high school Ethics Bowl competition, an Ethics Bowl team for UC students, and outreach activities such as its Ethics & Dragons program with Cincinnati Public Libraries, exploring   philosophical and moral reasoning in the context of Dungeons & Dragons. Professor Vanessa Carbonell serves on the Ethics Center Advisory Committee.

The UC Center for Public Engagement with Science, or PEWS, was founded by Professor Angela Potochnik in 2017 and is led also by Professor Melissa Jacquart and Max Cormendy (also Executive Director of the Philosophy of Science Association). PEWS works to expand and enrich the interface between science and the public to benefit all stakeholders. PEWS is an interdisciplinary endeavor, and many of its initiatives draw from philosophy and other disciplines in the humanities and social sciences. Philosophy faculty Lucas Dunlap and Eduardo Martinez also have dedicated leadership roles in PEWS.
