The Department of Romance and Arabic Languages and Literatures of the College of Arts and Sciences is a research department dedicated to studying and teaching the languages, literatures, and cultures of Arabic, French, Spanish, Italian, and Portuguese-speaking regions of the world. The department faculty is committed to conducting significant scholarship in these fields and to providing high quality academic programs at all levels. To this end we incorporate current scholarship and pedagogical approaches as well as study abroad into our classes and programs. Interdisciplinary work and scholarship is promoted through the department's active participation in the European Studies program (German, History and RALL initiative) and the Latin American Studies program, as well as a variety of language programs.
