About Graduate Studies

The Department of Romance and Arabic Languages and Literatures Graduate Program is a vibrant community of internationally known scholars and creative writers.

We offer programs of study leading to the degree of Master of Arts (M.A.) in French or Spanish and to the degree of doctor of philosophy (Ph.D.) in Romance languages.

The MA programs provide broad knowledge in each of the language areas. The Ph.D. program allows students to focus on a specific field of their interest.

Many of our graduate students receive financial support in the form of a complete tuition waiver and a stipend for teaching basic French or Spanish. In the course of your studies here, our internationally respected faculty will help you establish yourself as a teacher and researcher. Furthermore, our placement is excellent. We welcome applications from potential students who have some background in literature and are fluent in French or Spanish. Our current students come from Cincinnati, Ohio, the United States, the Americas, Europe, Africa, and throughout the world. If you are interested, examine the material below to learn more about our programs, or feel free to contact the Director of Graduate Studies or any professors.

See our Graduate Handbook.

Also, for undergraduate students, we offer a selective 4+1 MA program that allows the completion of an MA in just one year beyond the BA.
