Welcome to the Communication MA program. We look forward to your start in the program. We are sure that this will be an exciting time! The following is important information to help you prepare for the program.

Full-Time Students: Please include your summer physical address. We will send TAs teaching materials.  TAs, please copy Jessica Graves-Rack at combja@ucmail.uc.edu with your contact info.

Orientation

4+1 students: We generally organize an overview meeting for you in the spring. Look for an email from the graduate director.

Part-Time students: Graduate Director will contact you to schedule a group orientation in the term preceding your official start.

All students: Fall Orientation Week

The School generally hosts a Welcome Breakfast on the Monday of the week before school starts. We will send updates on this event.

TA training generally takes place the week before school starts, Monday-Thursday.

We usually hold a 4+1 orientation meeting after the Monday breakfast.

We usually host a back-to-school party on the Friday evening before the week classes begin.

Moving to Cincinnati

The Graduate School webpage for New Students contains campus maps, parking information, Cincinnati city life, and the “Graduate Student Survival Guide” http://grad.uc.edu/student-life/new-students.html.

Information about Graduate Housing can be found here: https://www.uc.edu/housing/graduate.html. You can call the Office of Resident Life On-Campus Housing for Graduate Students at 513-556-6461 and the Off-Campus Housing at 513- 556-0682. Our current students recommend you act quickly on securing housing.

Course Enrollment and Canopy/Canvas

Before you start in the program, you will be contacted by the Director of Graduate Studies with information about course registration.

Once you are in the system, you will be able to access Canvas at UC’s Canopy at https://www.canopy.uc.edu/ under UC tools. There you will find the tab for the library. Once you are enrolled, you will see you courses once the instructor makes that available. Once they are available, please log into each class. You will find information about syllabus and textbooks. Many courses have readings due the first week of class.

When it becomes available, you also will find on the bottom right of the main Canvas page under “My Organizations” – “Student Advising Organization for Comm Grads.” This site contains important information for graduate students under the Information tab. I will be emailing students through this website at your UC email address once students are auto-enrolled.
