Study Abroad

WGSS Members

Study abroad provides an ideal opportunity to experience the commonalities and differences of women's lives. It is also increasingly important for understanding and engaging in transnational feminism. You can learn a language or hone your skills; you can travel and still receive academic credit. Even students without a second language can find opportunities to study in programs conducted in English. Such experiences are limited to the summer, unless the graduate student does not hold a graduate assistantship.

You have many different options for Study Abroad:

  • Enroll in Women's, Gender, and Sexuality Studies related courses offered at an institution with which UC has an exchange agreement for UC graduate credit.

  • Use Research Hours and Independent Study credits and internship credits to design your own program. Consult with your advisor and the Women's, Gender, and Sexuality Studies Graduate Director or Undergraduate Director to ensure you meet the undergraduate/graduate requirements.

Can't find a program?

Go to www.iiepassport.org and "Search for Programs". Using the keywords "Women's, Gender, and Sexuality Studies" turns up nearly 150 programs here at the site for the Institute for International Education, Inc. Contact UC International -- and be sure to check out their scholarship for study abroad at www.uc.edu/international.
