Programs and Events

A&S hosts and collaborates on a number of programs and events that speak directly to our dedication to sustained equity.

The Choose Ohio First Scholars program is a statewide, competitively funded initiative. The program is designed to significantly strengthen Ohio’s competitiveness within STEMM (science, technology, engineering, mathematics, and medicine) disciplines and STEMM education. COFS receive competitive funds through the program. In addition to funding, COFS also participate in programming and mentorship opportunities to strengthen their networks and success in STEMM. There are currently 14 COFS within the College.

The Louis Stokes Alliance for Minority Participation (LSAMP) program is a National Science Foundation (NSF) funded program designed to increase the number of historically underrepresented students who earn STEM (science, technology, engineering and mathematics) degrees and continue to graduate school. The University of Cincinnati LSAMP program provides an educational environment to meet three goals: academic integration, social integration, and professionalization of the LSAMP program. All LSAMP Scholars participate in the Dr. Edward N. Prather Summer Bridge Program, a seven-week residential program that seeks to enhance their academic preparedness prior to the start of their freshman year.  Students from Arts & Science, Allied Health, and the College of Engineering and Applied Science participate in the program. There are currently 15 LSAMP scholars within A&S.
