Faculty & Staff Giving Impact
College Faculty and Staff choose to support the funds that matter most to them. Listed below are a few of the most frequently supported funds and information about the impact employee gifts have had.
Arts and Sciences Scholarship Fund
Gifts to the Arts & Sciences Scholarship Fund provide annual scholarships to deserving students, ranging in academic level from Freshman to Senior and spanning a multitude of A&S majors. The A&S Scholarship Fund is the college’s most flexible fund to support undergraduate students and provides the resources necessary to meet emergency needs when circumstances change or to provide the funds necessary for a student to simply stay enrolled in A&S.
Here is what one recipient had to say about his scholarship:
Susan L. Cogan Discretionary Fund for Romance Languages and Literatures
The Susan L. Cogan Discretionary Fund for Romance Languages and Literatures provides critical support at the Departmental level. This includes funds for student travel and financial flexibility to make physical and programmatic improvements as necessary. Additionally, this fund allows the Department of Romance Languages and Literatures to welcome visiting scholars and promote their events around campus in order to attract student and community interest.
Advising Discretionary Fund
Last year, the Advising Discretionary Fund provided financial support for the Advising team luncheon at the Cincinnati Zoo. With a team of over thirty staff with five differentiated functions, it is often difficult to find opportunities to build a feeling of “team” across the advising office. The zoo outing included a scavenger hunt with cross-unit teams to enhance relationships across the five units. Student problems often touch more than one unit, so it is important to have cross-functional teams that work well together. Opportunities to go beyond the office and grow closer as colleagues enhances our ability to work together every day.
Biological Sciences Discretionary Fund
The Biological Sciences Discretionary Fund frequently supports employee travel as well as support for departmental programs taking place on campus. Last year, this fund provided the resources necessary to support travel for seven employees and graduate students both domestically and abroad. This fund also financially supports the annual awards day celebration and other celebratory events such as retirement parties.
