Why study Philosophy?
The Philosophy Department curriculum covers most areas in contemporary philosophical problems as well as most of the major periods in the history of philosophy. The department is especially strong in philosophy of mind and philosophy of the life sciences. Please consult the department webpage for information on the strengths of individual faculty. Students in the MA program do a year of coursework and write a thesis. The degree can usually be earned within one year (including summer quarter). Students in a terminal MA program are not normally eligible for financial aid awarded by the department.
Admission Requirements
- GRE scores
- TOEFL scores (foreign applicants only)
- Writing sample
- Statement of purpose,
- Three letters of recommendation (preferably from philosophy professors)
- Official transcript of grades for BS or BA and any higher degrees (such as MA).
